Amy Beaty is a Research Technician for the Food Applications Lab at Riceland’s Research & Technical (R&T) Center. Her job includes new product development, value addition to existing products, and quality & assurance analysis. Over her nine years on the job, Amy’s favorite part of her job is projects in product development. Her product development work has ranged from Riceland products to customer collaborations for new product flavors and techniques. Beaty’s background in rice research with the University of Arkansas and the USDA made her a perfect fit for Riceland.
The R&T Center allows for the development of new products, continued development of current products, yearly crop evaluation of the top 30 rice varieties, and serves as a research point between the sales team and our mill. The R&T Center is unique to Riceland, making it one of the only rice mills that can research, test, and analyze its own products in-house. These capabilities have also helped Amy and the team atR&T to implement a company-wide verification program to maintain the calibrations of multiple instruments at each mill. This helps ensure that these instruments produce accurate results so that our products are within specifications year-round.
“Rice contains no gluten and is very easy to digest,” Beaty explains. It is a great staple food and provides multiple benefits. Most people don’t realize that most of the rice we eat is grown in the US.
When making rice at home, Amy prefers medium-grain, sticky rice and typically cooks it in her microwave. Her go-to rice recipe is pork chops with rice and gravy.
